BLOUNT'S CLAM OPENS A PROVIDENCE SHACK

If you're looking to indulge in all things fried, try Blount's most recent location (371 Richmond Street, Providence  401-228-7746), a semi-seaside (okay, semi-riverside) shack a few hundred yards from the hurricane barrier. For atmosphere take your clams over to a bench by the power plant and look at the assemblage of non-glam power boats and the snappy house boat.

Hours: Monday, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. ; Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

If you have kids in tow, head to  Blount's Riverside location at Crescent Park (684 Bullocks Point Avenue, East Providence  401-628-0485) for your clams and ice cream. Crescent Park is home to a popular national landmark, the grand 1895 Looff Carousel. (It's a Looff Carousel at the Santa Monica pier in California.) Blount hours here are Wednesday - Sunday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
